Lentil fritters or दाल पकौड़े are popular Indian starters and street food. The crispy dish delights everyone's tastebuds on a lazy rainy day or a cold winter evening.
Locally known as ডালের বড়া (Daler bora) in West Bengal, it is a popular culinary treat in Bihar, Delhi, Kerala, and other states. You can use different lentils like masur. I have used cholar dal or chana dal.
This recipe is super easy because it takes only minutes to prepare the tasty side dish. There are only six ingredients that you would need in a small amount.
Ingredients
100gm of Cholar dal
1 - 2 Green Chillies
1 Teaspoon of Turmeric
1 Teaspoon of Salt
1 Pinch of Baking soda
6-7 Tablespoons of Mustard Oil (or any oil of your choice)
How to Make Daler Bora?
Take a bowl. Measure 100gm of cholar dal and wash the dal twice. Add half a cup of water to the same bow. After that, we will let the dal soak in half water for 2 hours.
Let's strain the water from the bowl and transfer the dal to a mixer grinder. In the grinder, add the ingredients (green chilies and turmeric) as per the measurements mentioned in the list. We will get a thick batter as shown in the picture below.
After transferring the batter to a bowl, add a pinch of baking soda and mix it well. Now turn on the oven and place a small pan or kadhai of any size. Heat the pan for 3-4 minutes. Now, add 6-7 tablespoons of mustard oil and heat it for 2-3 mins.
Take a spoon and add the batter to the oil. Fry it till both sides have a light reddish or golden brown colour.
Now serve the cholar daler bora on a plate and enjoy.
